My name is Caroline and I work as a doctor in a children’s hospital. I must share a heartwarming experience I enjoyed last week.
Last Friday there was a big party at the hospital. Most of the doctors and nurses would be there, but of course some of us had to stay to look after the children. I felt a little sad because I was not free to go to the party. I enjoyed dancing very much. While my friends were getting ready to go to the party, I felt very sorry for myself.
At ten o’clock, I went to see each child one after another and said good night to them. Then I came to a little boy called Jimmy. Jimmy was only 10 years old, but he already talked like an
adult. Poor Jimmy was badly ill. In fact, he was getting weaker day by day. However, he was always thinking about others. We all liked the little boy very much.
When I came up to his bed, I noticed a piece of cake at the table beside his bed. When I was thinking why the cake was there, he said, “I’m very sorry that you have to miss the party because you have to take care of us. But we’re going to have a party for you. Have you seen the cake? I saved it from my supper today, so it’s quite special.” I thanked him. “And I’d dance with you myself if I was able to get up.” he added. His words warmed my heart.

In real life, most people seem confident. But when they can’t have things they want, they are upset and lose themselves. Do you want to learn how to be yourself? Here are some suggestions.
Be kind to yourself
Appreciate what you have done. Everyone has different talents which can help to make the world become a better one. Remember you don’t need to satisfy everyone. No matter what others think of you, just be yourself.
Make good friends
Always make friends with people who are willing to make you feel better about yourself. Good friends neither talk about how great they are nor praise you a lot. They enjoy being with you, not because you are like them, but because you are yourself.
Think about your family
The values of your family are to give you what you really need. Maybe you can’t get help when you have small problems. But you can learn how to depend on yourself. When you meet big problems, your family will always be with you.
Hold on to your dream
Holding on to your dream can make you braver and stronger. On the way of achieving your dream, you’ll know who you are and what you want. Even though you can’t achieve it, you’ll find you are better and you can still live a normal life.
In a word, you are the only one. Accept yourself and be yourself. Being unsuccessful doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. You just need a long way to go.

Judy was collecting information for a research project on teens killing themselves. She happened to read a news article about how some medicines increase the chance of killing themselves in kids and teens. How could a medicine that was supposed to help kids with depression actually make them feel worse?
Large newspapers, magazines, TV networks, and radio stations often have medical reporters to cover developments in health and medicine. Their job is to report scientific information in a way that’s easy for most people to understand. Many health stories are accurate and balanced.
But not all are. Sometimes, reporters try to quickly cram(塞满) information into a short news
story, and they make the information simple. What you see may not be the whole picture. To catch a reader’s attention, news reports sometimes say something untrue. Besides,
medical news reports often focus on people’s personal stories, not scientific studies. Personal
stories are interesting, but often they don’t prove anything about health or treatments in general. It takes a well-done study to do that. And sometimes these studies just aren’t exciting enough to make the news.
When you hear about a new medical development, the first question to ask yourself is whether the news is based on a scientific study. Knowing there’s a study behind the news is only the first step, though. How the study was done (and who did it) matters, too.
A lot of medical research is done in the laboratory or in lab animals, not in people —at least, not at first. Lab studies help scientists find out whether a drug looks promising(有前途的), how it works, and whether there might be side effects(副作用). But what happens in a laboratory
does not always work the same in people.
When watching or reading a news report about a new drug or treatment, see if it tells you whether the findings are in animals or people. Even if a study was done in people, it may not apply(应用)to you.
60. Judy was doing a research project on .
A. teens killing themselves B. kids with depression
C. medical reporters D. lab animals
61. Personal stories are told in medical news reports to .
A. make the news more difficult
B. catch the attention of readers
C. show the study was well done
D. help more people to understand the news
62. The Chinese meaning of the word “accurate” in Paragraph 2 is probably_ . A. 精确的 B. 生动的 C.伪造的 D. 狭隘的
63. The text is mainly about .
A. how to be healthy
B. how to get information from news
C. how to read and accept news on health
D. how to be a good medical reporter

In pop music, Michael Jackson is the king. He is the greatest superstar of the 20th century. Jackson was born in 1958 to a poor family in Indiana, U.S. He had nine brothers and sisters.
When Jackson was just 6 years old, his father started a band with Michael and four of his other
sons: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon. They became the Jackson 5, one of the most popular bands of the 1960s.
Jackson’s solo career started to take off in the 1970s. And it reached greater heights than any other musician’s in history. His 1982 album, Thriller, became the best selling album of all time. It also won eight Grammy awards.
What made Jackson’s music so popular? His lyrics may not be as poetic as someone like Bob Dylan. But if you listen closely to Jackson’s music, you can hear that he uses more than just words. His shouts, cries and gasps (倒抽气) all add meaning to his music. They show feelings
that words alone cannot. He is also famous for his very high voice. He used his voice to copy instruments.
Jackson had another special performance: the Moonwalk. This was a smooth dance of him walking backward. It looks very easy but is actually hard to copy – although lots of people have tried!
Michael Jackson was famous for his look as much as his music. Jackson was African-American. It means that he had brown skin during his childhood. As he grows older, however, his skin started to become lighter. And by the time of his death he was much whiter.
The real reason for the changes in Jackson’s look was never clear. While he was very public about his music, he was very private about his health.
As with so many famous people, there have been some dark sides, too. In the 1990s and 2000s, there were charges (指控) of sexual assault (性侵犯) against Jackson. But when Jackson died in 2009, what people remembered most was his music.
