职业教育是让受教育者获得某种职业或生产劳动所需要的职业知识、技能和职业道德的教育，各种职业培训以及职业学校教育等都属于职业教育。职业教育的目的是提高劳动者的文化、技术、业务水平，培养适应各种职业所需要的熟练劳动力和专门人才。与普通教育和成人教育相比较，职业教育侧重于实践技能和实际工作能力的培养。

Vocational education is the education which endows the educated with vocational knowledge and skills, and professional ethics required by a certain vocation or productive labor. All kinds of vocational training and vocational school education fall within the vocational education.
