北洋水师
北洋水师，或称作北洋舰队、北洋海军，是中国清朝后期建立的一支近代化海军舰队，同时也是中国清代政府建立的四支近代海军中实力最强、规模最大的一支。北洋水师1888年12月17日于山东威海卫的刘公岛正式成立。在1894年-1895年的中日甲午战争中全军覆没，它标志着洋务运动的失败。清政府也因此签订了中日《马关条约》。

Beiyang Fleet
The Beiyang Fleet, or the Beiyang Navy, was a modern navy fleet built in the late Qing Dynasty, as well as the largest and strongest among the four fleets built by the Government of the Qing Dynasty. It was founded in Liugong Island, Weihaiwei, Shandong Province on December 17, 1888 and was totally destroyed during the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) (this signified the failure of the Westernization Movement, and the Government of the Qing Dynasty had to sign the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Shimonoseki).
