　　Message by Jeremy Corbyn on International Women’s Day 2018

　　I’m here in the East Midlands on International Women’s Day.

　　100 years ago, after a valiant struggle by the Suffragettes, some women earned the right to vote.

　　Ten years later, this democratic right was extended to them all.

　　But the struggle for equality in pay, position and representation still continues.

　　Today, I’m meeting inspirational women from business – leaders in Alfreton to students and local councillors in Hucknall.

　　And I’ve been given some wonderful gifts, including this picture here of Labour Llama.

　　Here in Hucknall, I’m meeting six firm students taking part in workshops on equality. I want to ensure that when they get a job, they get equal pay.

　　That’s why today, we’ve pledged the employers would need to prove they are paying women and men the same pay for doing the same work.

　　We want to close the gender pay gap and deliver a more equal country that really works for the many, not the few.
