  参考译文:

China has witnessed impressive achievements in human rights since the founding of the People’s Republic of China seven decades ago. Prior to 1949, its per capita GDP was a mere 27 dollars and average life expectancy was 35 years. The average years of schooling were less than one year, and about 90% of the people were illiterate. In addition, the Chinese people lived in untold misery as a result of frequent wars.

Now China is the world’s second largest economy, and Chinese residents enjoy higher standards of living, with their average life expectancy jumping from 35 years to 77 years. Also, China has established legal and policy systems for the protection of civil rights.

China has written “respect for and protection of human rights” into the Constitution, thus significantly enhancing the harmonious development of society. It supports and protects the rights to subsistence and development of Chinese citizens and stands against the trend of ignoring economic, social and cultural rights. It also calls for the balanced protection of the two rights and aims to promote human rights and end poverty through national development. Today Chinese principles of human rights have gained extensive support of the international community.

China also fulfills its international human rights obligations: it is now a party to 26 international human rights treaties, including six core treaties. Moreover, it engages in extensive international exchange and cooperation by launching human rights dialogues and consultations with more than 20 countries and maintaining constructive communication with UN human rights mechanisms.
